CAROL STRICKLER MEMORIAL AWARD FUND

The Handweavers Guild of Boulder established an award fund in 1992 and named it in honor of Carol Strickler, who passed away in April of that year.

Carol Strickler was a member of the Handweavers Guild of Boulder from 1967, when she discovered weaving, until her death. Her contributions to the organization and to the craft were extraordinary. She co-wrote the first by-laws, started the Guild library as well as the Guild newsletter, and served three terms as president. Carol was a teacher and mentor to many beginning weavers. She earned the Handweavers Guild of America Certificate of Excellence in Handweaving and achieved a national reputation as writer and teacher. She wrote a column on computer weaving for Handwoven Magazine, served as technical editor of the magazine for many years, and authored countless articles. Carol was editor of The Weaver's Book of 8-shaft Patterns and author of Weaving in Miniature, Coverlet Portfolios (5 volumes), and American Woven Coverlets. The fund was set up to provide an award to any qualified member of the Handweavers Build of Boulder to assist in his/her technical and aesthetic development. The award must be used for a fiber-related endeavor, such as local classes, guild workshops, conferences, supplies, etc.

The Guild will contribute funds to match Steward Strickler's donations and more if circumstances permit. Any unspent funds will accrue in the Memorial fund. Applications must be submitted by February 1 to be eligible for consideration. For a copy of requirements and an application form, please contact Maggie Casey or Joanne Turner.

BESSIE STOWALL MEMORIAL FUND

Bessie Stowall was a weaver and teacher of weaving who was instrumental in starting the Handweavers Guild of Boulder in 1964. She served as first president of the Guild. After her death in 1982, a memorial fund was established in her name. Donations are welcome and are used to fund special educational events.
