Community Outreach

HGB is committed to promoting the fiber arts and sharing our expertise with our community. Each year, members demonstrate traditional and contemporary fiber art skills to historical, art, and school groups across the region. This service is free of charge to the community.

If you would like to schedule a demonstration for your organization, please contact our Outreach Chair.

Please contact Sue Hintz-Siegrist to find out about up-coming activities. Your talent and skills are greatly appreciated!

Also, if you are participating in any of our demonstrations, please feel free to take photos and send them to Sue. Let's show people what HGB Community Outreach is doing!

From Our Lands to Your Hands

On February 2, a program called From Our Lands to Your Hands, for area fourth graders, was held at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. HGB hosted both a spinning area and a weaving area where ten groups of about fifteen students each spent a quarter of an hour experiencing how to spin and weave. The event was well organized, and hundreds of enthusiastic students became acquainted with looms and spinning wheels thanks to guild volunteers.

Sue Hintz-Siegrist, our outreach coordinator, ably communicated with event leaders and volunteers. Huge thanks to spinners Gretha Vermeulen, Debi Dodge, Stephanie Flynn-Sokolov, Ellen Champion, and Angella Dirks, and to weavers Sally Stevenson, Mia Sherman, Beth Wintroub, Rhonda Crosman, and Jean Cleavinger who spent the day patiently introducing their art to Longmont area students.
