Carol Strickler Memorial Award Fund
The Handweavers Guild of Boulder established an award fund in 1992 and named it in honor of Carol Strickler, who passed away in April of that year.
Carol Strickler was a member of the Handweavers Guild of Boulder from 1967, when she discovered weaving, until her death. Her contributions to the organization and to the craft were extraordinary. She co-wrote the first by-laws, started the Guild library as well as the Guild newsletter, and served three terms as president. Carol was a teacher and mentor to many beginning weavers. She earned the Handweavers Guild of America Certificate of Excellence in Handweaving and achieved a national reputation as writer and teacher. She also collected coverlets, many of which have been donated to the Denver Art Museum. She wrote a column on computer weaving for Handwoven Magazine, served as technical editor of the magazine for many years, and authored countless articles. Carol was editor of The Weaver's Book of 8-shaft Patterns and author of Weaving in Miniature, Coverlet Portfolios (5 volumes), and American Woven Coverlets.
The Carol Strickler Memorial Aware Fund was set up to provide annual awards to all who have been members of the Handweavers Guild of Boulder for at least one year. Awards are provided for on-going member education and advancement of textile studies. The awards are not need based.
Some of the projects funded in the past included: support for workshops, assistance with attending conferences, and funding for personal textile research. To apply for an award, present an application (instructions included) to the Strickler Committee no later than March 1, 2001 (address for mailing is included in instructions).
