Study Groups
The term study group is perhaps misleading. While some of the groups listed below have a more formal program of study, others meet more informally to share ideas, show and tell, and brainstorm solutions to problems. Study groups allow members who share a common artistic passion to exchange ideas and learn in a small group. All members of any proficiency level are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please contact host for questions.
Day Weavers
The day weavers share weaving tips and friendship through hands-on experimentation, discussion, research, and a yearly challenge. Meetings may include a guest speaker, classes, a yearly challenge or exchange, and field trips. After the main focus of a meeting, the members discuss individual projects, have a show and tell, and decide the content of the next meeting. The group participates in the Boulder County Fair and the HGB Sale. They occasionally provide backup and work for receptions, assist in the book sale, and even organized and put on the book sale one year.
The group meets year round on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 11:30 am to 3 pm in members' homes, including a shared potluck. Contact Gayle Moyle for more information.
Evening Weavers
Sharing weaving knowledge and encouragement is the mission of the evening weaving study group. The meetings are more like a salon, in the sense of a gathering 'to please or educate', focused on weaving. Activities are varied. View our gallery of works to see what we've been up to. Meetings contain discussion of general information, recent guild meetings and exhibits, or particular issues as they arise. Each member has the opportunity for show and tell and to ask for help. An occasional mini-workshop is presented by a member followed by hands-on practice at a loom. Meetings conclude with scheduling date and location of the next meeting.
This group has regular meetings on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in members' homes. Summer meetings depend upon member availability and interest. Contact Carolyn James for more information.
Day Weavers 2
Newly organized in May of 2011, Day Weavers 2 holds meetings on the first Monday of the month from 9:30 to 11:30. Members share experiences and learn from each other in a relaxed but focused environment. Discussions cover fabric structures, fibers, and design inspirations, along with all other aspects of weaving. Day Weavers 2 is a small group that is interested in expanding the number of regular members. Contact Barbara Lebiedzik for more information.
Complex Weavers
The Complex Weaver members support each other in the process of exploring weaving with more than four shafts. They select a topic of study which covers a period of time. The informal, but structured, meetings consist of presenting research and discussion about the assigned topic. New participants are encouraged to join at the beginning of a new topic. For fall 2011, Complex Weavers' Study Group is starting a study of double weave, and we invite new members to join us.
This group meets on the fourth Monday morning of each month (except for summer months) in the classroom space at Shuttles, Spindles, and Skeins, Table Mesa Shopping Center, Broadway at Table Mesa Drive, Boulder. Contact Suzanne Angevine for more information.
Tapestry Study Group
The main purpose of the tapestry group is to explore the techniques of tapestry weaving. Aspects of design are another major focus, as applicable to tapestry and other fiber related areas. Meetings have a preplanned topic or activity. A yearly challenge focuses members' design and weaving efforts for that year. There is always a show and tell and sharing of upcoming events locally and within the guild. A gallery of works is available.
This group meets on the first Wednesday of the month, at 9:30 am to 1:00 pm at members' homes and includes a brown bag lunch. Summer meetings are Saturday field trips to exhibits and museums and one summer meeting is hands-on dye-related. Contact Elizabeth Shoeman for more information.
