About Handweavers Guild of Boulder

Mission

To explore the lore and techniques of handweaving and related textile arts and crafts and to stimulate interest in these media.

History

The Handweavers Guild of Boulder was founded in 1964 by a small group of Boulder women dedicated to the art of hand weaving. Three years later, in 1967, the official name of Handweavers Guild of Boulder was adopted together with a set of by-laws still in use today.

For nearly sixty years, the Guild has prospered while carrying out its mission of exploring and encouraging handweaving and related fiber arts in the Boulder community.

Today the Guild and its over 300 members seek to continue this mission by fostering awareness of the importance of the fiber arts, especially those made by hand, and by encouraging participation in all forms of fiber art.

Membership is open to persons interested in the art of handweaving and related fiber arts.

The Handweavers Guild of Boulder has been part of the fabric of the greater Boulder community through its outreach programs with local schools, the Boulder County Fair, and the Boulder County jail. In return, the community has generously supported the HGB Fiber Art Show & Sale of handwoven and handmade textiles.

In November 2016, the Guild applied for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. In March 2017, our application was accepted. Effective November 1, 2016, the Guild is an IRS tax-exempt charitable educational organization.  In 2019, HGB was accepted into ColoradoGives.org, a statewide platform for safe and secure charitable donations.
